South African National Anthem

I know I just posted like a couple of minutes ago but this just shocked me. There has been a lot of joking going around lately since a certain member of a rock band sang the South African national anthem so poorly, and I am sorry to criticise but it was really inappropriate, I shall not give his name, but most people will immediately know who I am speaking of. This guy performed at the announcement of the national Rugby team who will be representing us in the World Cup in September, so the whole country/worlds eyes were on this and he goes and destroys the song in less than 30 seconds and starts laughing about it...even though it’s not a laughing matter.

So my thought here is to put the words on my blog and people can look at it and learn it. It has the English translation next to it, so you can understand the other languages. It is really a beautiful song.

Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika

Language
Lyrics
English translation
Nkosi sikelel' iAfrika
Maluphakanyisw' uphondo lwayo,
God bless Africa
Raise high its glory
Yizwa imithandazo yethu,
Nkosi sikelela, thina lusapho lwayo.
Hear our prayers
God bless us, her children
Morena boloka setjhaba sa heso,
O fedise dintwa le matshwenyeho,
O se boloke, O se boloke setjhaba sa heso,
Setjhaba sa, South Afrika — South Afrika.
God, we ask You to protect our nation
Intervene and end all conflicts
Protect us, protect our nation,
our nation, South Africa — South Africa.
Uit die blou van onse hemel,
Uit die diepte van ons see,
Oor ons ewige gebergtes,
Waar die kranse antwoord gee,
From the blue of our heaven,
From the depth of our sea,
Over our everlasting mountains,
Where the echoing cliffs resound,
Sounds the call to come together,
And united we shall stand,
Let us live and strive for freedom
In South Africa our land.

Manic Wednesday

Hey all,

Sorry for being so absent lately, a lot has happened in the last few weeks, As you might know I am currently looking for a more permanent job, I was on a short list for a company in Bloemfontein (where I live by the way) but after an extremely difficult test which I failed I did not get the position, as is normal, I was, am devastated. This would have been the perfect opportunity, I studied Computer sciences and majored in programming, this job would have been perfect; it’s an internship for a year, so they would have trained you and you will still have a year’s programming experience. Of course my family is very encouraging, and keeps cheering me on, but after this small blow morale is low and I need a pick me up... too bad I am not the drinking kind, would drown my sorrows J

So yesterday my sister, best friend and I went and watched Lion King in 3D, as always, Lion King is the best movie ever and we all enjoyed it extremely. There were even a couple of people singing to the songs, and those who have great memories also saying the lines with the movie. It was amazing. Who would have guessed so many people remembered this movie out of their heads. I personally did not like the 3D because as we all know Lion King was not made for 3D, so it was a waste, I should have waited until it was in 2D. Definitely getting this movie for my collection.

Last night when we were walking through our local mall after the movie, we encountered some stores that were still open, and I am one of those persons when I see the word SALE I can’t resist, I have to go in and check it out, even if I don’t buy anything. Unfortunately for my bank account it was a book sale and I can’t resist a book that is cheap. I am an avid reader so I got a couple of cool titles for my library...which by the way no way near resembles a library, but someday it will.

My latest craft project is an old chest of drawers, it was my grandmothers and is currently not looking very good, I have already bought the sanding paper which needs to vary in coarseness? This is going to be a first for me and I am kind of dreading it, but luckily the internet is near and I can always ask someone.

Well this is all for today, Have a great Wednesday

Good Morning!

Morning all! I know I promised a book review last week, but I'm only halfway through the book at the moment, I just got so pre-occupied by something else, I discovered a new blog last week accidently and spend a good few days reading every post. It was like reading a book all on its own, I just loved reading about this family. My other great love also interfered over the weekend, my family and I all love the BBC series Larkrise to Candleford, so before the long weekend season 3 finally arrived so we spend the whole weekend watching it.

For those of you who don't know this, here is a short recap. The series is set in the small hamlet of Larkrise and it's neighbouring town of Candleford at the end of the 19th century. The narrator is Laura who is from Larkrise, her family wants her to do more with her life and she leaves to work for her mothers cousin Dorcas, this series follows the trials and tribulations of Laura who is learning a new skill in the post office and who has to cope with leaving her family. Larkrisers also have to face their own battles since they are from the hamlet which is where the poor families live. The story follows both Larkrise and Candleford individuals, Robert Timmins, Laura's father, is seen as the leader of the Larkrisers, I know this short descriptions does not give this great series the praise it deserves, but I wanted you all to go out and either rent it or get your hands on a copy.

Well I also had a job interview yesterday and let me tell you, there is about only one thing that gets me very nervous, that is throw me into a room filled with people I don't know and expect my brain to still function correctly. But allas everyone has to go through this at some time in their lives.

Well I wish you all a wonderful day! I am feeling the influenza (Larkrise to Candleford inspired, it just sounds better than saying FLU) comming on so drinking lots of medlemon :)

Blackberry Craze

So the Blackberry craze has hit the country, and in South Africa everywhere you go 6 out of 10 people will be chatting on their Blackberry. I must admit that I have also recently joined this fad and have actively been telling everyone I know those who want to know and those who don't care that I love this little black device of mine. Why? Why have I and so many other people fallen for this wonderful device?

Well lets look at some facts...

Since I received my Blackberry I must say I have heard of many people who have lost all their data on their phones, and therefore I am telling you listen to people who have Blackberry's they know when the updates are necessary and which applications work and which are just a waste of space. I have learned through other friends that you always back-up your Blackberry before you let the updates install. Horror stories about people loosing their contacts and their music (which to be honest you can just go and copy again or download) it is still a slep if you have go and find all your friends again. Luckily for me, my parents still grew up in the good old days, so I have a little black book containing all the numbers of people who are important to me.

The plus side of Blackberry is BBM, what is that some of you might ask? It's Blackberry Messenger, which basically means if you pay your subscription every month then you can chat to your friends for free, well this has come into good use with me, I have family overseas who have Blackberry's so I keep in touch with daily chats. How many people can say they can have whole conversations using for instance sms for as little as R60, I used to use up R60 in a day if I wasn't careful, and now I still have last months airtime and this months. I must say that is a huge plus side, since now I can phone all my friends who don't have Blackberry's and tell them about all the plus sides of having a one.

The other plus side is also by paying your monthly fee you can surf the internet for free, this might not sound WOW to those of you who probably don't even use the internet on a permanent basis, but this is great if you want to download songs, and if you want to quickly browse the internet if you saw something you want to look into.

And of course just like other phones you can add cool covers and screen savers.

Well hopefully I have confinced a few more future Blackberry fanatics, or even confinced one person that they will never get one. Just remember never is an awful long time :)
