The Lost Crown

Sarah Miller

This is a brilliant portrayal of the last years of the Russian royal family in the 1916-1918. It is written in the perspective of the grand duchesses (Tatiana, Olga, Maria and Anastasia); the writer, Sarah Miller, keeps your full attention the whole time, and builds up the anticipation. She knows how to capture the emotions of the princesses and pulling you into their world. Following them in their imprisonment, their insecurities, being separated from their parents and in the end their death.

I became interested in the Romanov family when seeing the 1997 Disney film Anastasia, I wanted to find out more about them and if it could be true that one of them escaped. When I read about this book, I knew I must find it and read it. Several searches later I finally found it on Amazon and couldn’t put it down.

This is worth the read. A Brilliant book

So sorry

So Sorry

Good morning all, so I haven’t been active lately. I’m so sorry. Been hectic here. So let me think what has happened in the past few weeks.

I am currently looking for a new job since my contract is expiring end of September. It’s a daunting task, not one I am used to and the fact that I struck it good where I am currently. I mean how many people can say their first jobs was this good. This scares me, since sometime it has to end, I might get the worst boss in the world with my next job (Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen)

I am an avid Olympics watcher. I love the swimming and the gymnastics and have also watched a few fencing matches. I just wish I could be there. I guess this time around I am watching it so avidly because we have family there. My uncle lives in Sevenoaks a couple of minutes away from London. Wouldn’t mind visiting them and seeing some events live, but alas it is too late.

I recently bought the entire Twilight series books I love these covers and have waited for them to come down in price so that I can justify it to my budget that I absolutely need them. J Can’t wait for the final movie. Next month it will be the Harry Potter collection.

I have recently finished the second Hunger Games book. Will try and finish the last one and give you a general review on all three.

We are going to watch Brave this weekend. It looks like a great Disney movie. We are big Disney fans so can’t wait to meet the newest Disney princess. Look at this girl’s mass of red hair. Of course I already like her. And if it’s as good as it promises to be, it will make a great gift for my cousin for Christmas

Well that is all for today, hope you have a great day,

What to expect when you're expecting

What to expect when you’re expecting

˜˜˜˜

So last night we went out on a family date. This doesn’t happen very often since my parent work and then they don’t want to go out or there isn’t anything showing all of us want to watch. So last night it was a tossup between: What to expect... and Madagascar. But since our local cinema we usually go to have a special on Wednesdays if you are a club member we thought maybe we should go and see Madagascar, since it will be much cheaper. But alas their system was down so no cheap 3D movies for the van Heerden family. Since we had some Wednesday Spur special tickets I ended up paying only for 2 of the 4 tickets. Score!

The movie was very funny. I especially liked Cameron Diaz and Anna Kendrick. I liked her in Twilight Saga, but in this movie she really showed she can be in big roles. Elizabeth Banks was also amazing. She got to play the lady that everything goes wrong with. She gets all the symptoms, and she has a terrible meltdown at a conference. It was incredibly funny.

There is also a gang of boys in the movie which gets the dads ready for fatherhood. They walk in a park and gives advice, and share secrets about what they have done wrong with their children. I loved the scene where they walk and try and look cool.

I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone. In my book it gets a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

Movie Night

Saturday Night is Movie Night

I don’t know if other people have the same problem, so here goes.

At our house we have a lot of DVD’s and I mean a lot. We collected them over the years and every Saturday evening when there is nothing on television, as it usually happens we have a BIG fight about what to watch, since each one in the family has their favourites.

So a couple of months ago we came up with the brilliant idea. Each one picks two of the movies they really want to watch, write them on a piece of paper, throw them in a bowl, on shakes the bowl and draws the winning movie. This way no one can say they never get to watch their movies. Sometimes if we are in the mood on a Sunday we will draw another movie from the remaining ballots.

Our Ballots

This is what you look like when you don't win

And this is what you look like if you do

Excuse the washing lines, it was pouring outside and Saturdays are our washing days. What do you guys do when you can’t choose?

Long Time No Blog

Long Long Time no Blog

Hey all, so I haven’t blogged in a long time so I have a lot to catch you guys up on my life, which surprise, surprise there isn’t that much to catch you up on.

Last week I was sick. I hate love autumn since this is when all the trees turn the prettiest shade of yellows, oranges and browns, our garden is a mess with all the leaves everywhere, since my mom hates raking it all up, it also serves as insulation for the plants in the winter time.

So my first month at the gym past and I lost 5kg! I know this isn’t that much but for me it is. It is just that one step closer to my goal weight. I must say the sessions at the gym aren’t getting any easier since it is resistance training. But I enjoy it.

Last week we went to see Pirates band of misfits. I loved it, the animation is done beautifully and the story line is also very good. I was really impressed that Hugh Grant stars in it. I always love all his movies.

The next movie I am looking out for is The Vow, Has anyone else seen it? The previews seem really good and I am a big Rachel McAdams fan so can’t wait. I should just remember a box of tissues. My friends and I went to watch the Notebook many years ago, we didn’t realise what the movie was really about and did not have any tissues between us. Needless to say we were a sight for sore eyes.

I am almost done with my current book The Book Thief, we are reading it for book club, and it is really good I will give you a complete review as soon as I am done. So far I can tell you one thing; this book is worth the read.

Last week at work we were switched to a new network and to my horror one of my favourite blogs is now blocked, I almost cried. I have read this blog since I discovered blogs, and love reading about this family. Check out http://www.itsgoodtobequeen.net/. Luckily most of my other favourites are still viewable at work. Or I might have died J would have been really funny if my own blog was blocked.

Pre-Birthday post

Eve of my 24th Birthday

So it’s the eve of my 24th birthday, and I have just realised the blog has had 100 views! Thank you to all that have viewed the blog. So the plans for the weekend are a movie tonight, Boyfriend and I are going to go watch Jack and Jill tonight, I really hope it’s worth it.

Tomorrow on my birthday, we are going to the Boeremark (Farmers market) and since it’s my first off weekend in a while, I plan to enjoy it. Afterwards a braai, with maybe some swimming later. On Sunday the family will arrive and we will have a nice Sunday lunch, can’t wait for the weekend to kick off.

Now I am going to leave you with a quote that has really grabbed me and then I am going to enjoy some cake with co-workers. Enjoy your weekend all!
